Parmigiani Fleurier is celebrating 30 years of independent watchmaking with three platinum versions of its Tonda PF models. According to Parmigiani Fleurier, the trilogy focuses on complications that appear only when the wearer needs them.
The anniversary collection includes the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante, Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante and Tonda PF Chronographe Mystérieux. Each model is limited to 30 pieces and can be bought separately or as part of a three-watch set.
All three watches use 950 platinum for the case, bracelet and sandblasted dial. The single-metal finish gives them a restrained appearance, with the knurled bezel adding a subtle change in texture.
The GMT Rattrapante is the travel watch of the trio, using two superimposed hour hands to display local and home time. When the second time zone is no longer needed, the rose-gold home-time hand moves beneath the white-gold hand and disappears from view.
The Minute Rattrapante uses a hidden rose-gold minute hand to track shorter periods of time. It can move ahead in one-minute or five-minute steps before returning beneath the main hand when the timing function is finished.
The Chronographe Mystérieux uses a more unusual approach to displaying elapsed time. Its chronograph hands remain stacked when not in use, then separate across the centre of the dial to measure seconds, minutes and hours without traditional sub-dials.
Each watch uses an automatic Parmigiani Fleurier movement, with the GMT and Minute Rattrapante models offering 48 hours of power reserve. The Chronographe Mystérieux has a 60-hour power reserve and 100 metres of water resistance.
Pricing starts at CHF 91,000 (approx. $111,000) for the GMT Rattrapante, rises to CHF 93,000 (approx. $113,500) for the Minute Rattrapante and reaches CHF 99,600 (approx. $121,500) for the Chronographe Mystérieux. Restrained they may look, but these platinum Tonda PF editions are anything but simple.
