Gap has revived the fragrances that once filled shopping malls throughout the 1990s. As Gap announced, Dream, Grass, Heaven and Om have returned to US stores as part of the first Gap Beauty collection. Each has been reformulated as an eau de parfum with a 20% concentration, while the newly created Harmony expands the lineup to five scents.
The collection remains relatively affordable compared with many modern perfumes. A full-size 50ml bottle costs $52, while both the 10ml version and five-piece Discovery Kit are available for $20.
Gap first introduced its fragrance range in November 1994, and the four original scents soon became closely associated with the brand’s clean, casual image. Their updated formulas use contemporary ingredients and perfumery techniques while retaining elements that made each fragrance distinctive.
Dream combines Italian bergamot, jasmine and cedarwood to create a warm, woody scent. Grass takes a fresher direction with green mandarin, matcha and Virginia cedar, while Heaven blends pear with Madagascar vanilla and patchouli for a softer finish.
Om is the deepest fragrance in the collection, bringing together ginger, sandalwood and cedar. Harmony offers something entirely new, pairing apricot nectar with gardenia and amber for a brighter, fruitier scent.
DSM-Firmenich perfumers Honorine Blanc and Nicole Mancini developed the collection with the Gap Beauty team. Blanc also worked on the original fragrances, helping the brand update the range without completely losing its 1990s identity.
Actress Victoria Pedretti fronts the accompanying Wear What You Feel campaign, which presents each fragrance as a different mood. The scents are also designed to be layered, allowing wearers to combine them and create their own variations.
Longtime fans may be most interested in discovering how closely the new formulas match the bottles they remember. For anyone who missed them the first time, the collection offers an affordable introduction to one of Gap’s most memorable 1990s releases.
