Casio has given one of its best-known budget watches a small but useful update, replacing the F-91W’s usual resin strap with a fabric alternative.
According to Casio, the new F-91WF uses a cloth strap made from recycled PET fibres that is designed to resist scratches and stains. The watch itself keeps the same lightweight digital design, but the new strap should make it a little better suited to everyday outdoor wear.
It may seem like a minor change, yet the fabric strap gives the F-91WF a noticeably different look and should feel more breathable during longer days outside. The standard F-91W has used a flexible resin band for decades, and the rest of the watch has changed very little since its launch in 1989.
Most of the original features carry over to the new version. The F-91WF measures 38.2 x 35.2 x 8.5mm and weighs just 21g, with a resin case and resin glass. It also keeps the digital display, green LED light, daily alarm, hourly signal and 1/100-second stopwatch.
Battery life is rated at around seven years from a single CR2016 battery, and basic water resistance should be enough for everyday splashes and rain. Casio currently offers the watch in black, navy and green, with each version paired with a matching fabric strap.
You can see the difference in price when you compare it with the regular F-91W. That model often sells for under $30, but Casio Thailand lists the new F-91WF at ฿1,600, or roughly $50.
US pricing and availability have not been confirmed yet, so buyers there may have to wait a little longer. Nonetheless, the F-91WF stays true to the original, with the fabric strap giving it a fresh update.
