The Batman Part II has been delayed again, but fans have at least been given a first look at Robert Pattinson’s return as the Dark Knight. Warner Bros. has moved the launch date for the sequel to February 18, 2028. The film had most recently been scheduled for October 1, 2027, meaning the wait for Matt Reeves’ follow-up is now even longer.
Reeves revealed the new date through a brief camera test shared on Wednesday. The footage shows Pattinson standing in the rain in his full Batman costume before slowly turning towards the camera, with the screen then fading to black to reveal the February 2028 release.
His suit appears close to the one worn in the 2022 film, although the cowl has received at least one noticeable update. After a viewer on X pointed out that Batman’s ears looked longer, Reeves confirmed that the change was intentional.
Plot details remain under wraps, but Reeves has written the sequel with Mattson Tomlin, while Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne. Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell are also expected back as Jim Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth and Oz Cobb following Farrell’s expanded role in The Penguin.
Several major names have joined the cast, including Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch. Their roles have largely been kept secret, leaving the film’s villain and wider story open to speculation.
Moving the sequel to 2028 makes the wait considerably longer, especially after its previous delays. Still, the camera test is the clearest sign yet that Reeves’ version of Gotham is moving forward. Pattinson may only appear for a few seconds, but the footage finally offers a proper glimpse of Batman’s return and the first visible change to his costume.
