Europe is next on Rivian’s expansion map, and the UK is firmly part of the plan.
Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe confirmed the move in an interview with Auto Express. The first model heading our way will be the R2, a mid-size electric SUV developed with European customers in mind and aimed squarely at cars like the Tesla Model Y.
Rivian is already making its intentions clear on its UK website, where visitors are told the company is “coming to Europe” and can sign up for R2 updates. There is still no firm launch date for the UK or mainland Europe.

The R2 is already on American roads, with customer deliveries beginning in June 2026. Performance models start at $57,990, with Premium versions following later this year and cheaper Standard models arriving in 2027. Rivian currently lists the most affordable R2 at $44,990.
Europe will eventually get more than one Rivian too. According to Scaringe, the smaller R3 crossover and its more powerful tri-motor R3X sibling are also heading here. He has even hinted at a more affordable model, potentially called R4, further down the line.
The bigger challenge is making enough cars to support that expansion. Rivian recently broke ground on a second factory in Georgia, which is expected to open in 2028 with an initial annual capacity of 300,000 vehicles. Scaringe says that extra production will play an important role in supporting European sales.

That is also why he has stopped short of giving Europe a firm arrival date. Auto Express points to 2028 or 2029, though Rivian has not confirmed either year.
Whenever Rivian does arrive, it will be entering one of the world’s most competitive EV markets. But with the R2 designed with Europe in mind and more models already planned, the company clearly sees the continent as a major part of its future.
