Three pedals are back in the 911 Carrera S, at least for buyers in North America.
Porsche has confirmed a new 2027 Carrera S with MT Package following strong customer demand. It will be offered as both a coupé and Cabriolet, bringing a manual option back after the 992.2 Carrera S initially launched with the automatic PDK only.
The six-speed gearbox is shared with the Carrera T and sends power exclusively to the rear wheels. It is paired with the familiar 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six, producing 473hp and 390lb-ft of torque.
Choosing the manual does mean giving up some straight-line speed. The coupé reaches 60mph in 3.9 seconds, compared with 3.3 seconds for the PDK-equipped Carrera S, although both have the same 191mph top speed.
Porsche has added plenty more to the MT Package beyond the gearbox. Rear-axle steering, Sport Chrono and PASM Sport suspension are standard, with the latter lowering the car by 10mm. It also gets unique exhaust tuning, a walnut gear knob and titanium exhaust tips with black trim.
Centre-lock wheels make their first appearance on a Carrera S too, saving more than 17lb compared with the standard wheels. The coupé weighs 3,327lb overall, putting it just 11lb above the less powerful Carrera T.
One detail worth noting is the brakes. Carbon-ceramic brakes are available as an option, rather than standard, with the regular setup using large cast-iron discs and six-piston front calipers.
Prices start at $167,100 for the Carrera S coupé with MT Package and $181,000 for the Cabriolet. Both figures exclude Porsche’s $2,350 delivery, processing and handling charge.
Orders are open now, with deliveries expected to begin by the end of 2026. For anyone who thought the Carrera S had permanently lost its manual gearbox during the 992.2 update, its return should be very welcome news.
