Warner Bros. has given us another glimpse of Dune: Part Three, just as demand for early IMAX screenings sends fans scrambling for tickets months before release.
A new television spot arrived alongside the latest ticket drop, showing more of the dark, atmospheric visuals from Denis Villeneuve’s third Dune film. That the footage reveals little about the story, but gives another sense of the scale Villeneuve is bringing to his final chapter on Arrakis (via Hypebeast).
Getting a seat for that chapter is already proving difficult. Warner Bros. opened another round of early booking to registered Dune Insiders this week, following advance sales earlier in the year. The sudden demand led to long online queues, error messages and quick sellouts at cinemas across the US.
Those lucky enough to secure tickets can see the film before its wider December 18 release. Early IMAX 70mm screenings begin on December 14, followed by standard IMAX on December 15 and other premium formats from December 17.
There is a good reason fans are putting so much effort into the IMAX version. Dune: Part Three was shot using a combination of IMAX film cameras and IMAX-certified digital equipment, with 71 minutes opening up to an expanded aspect ratio. Regular IMAX screens will show those sequences at 1.90:1, with compatible Laser and 70mm venues expanding further to 1.43:1.
Seeing it on actual IMAX 70mm film will be much harder, since only 25 US cinemas are currently equipped for that presentation. Some screenings are already sold out or close to it, months before opening night.
Villeneuve has spent two films making Arrakis feel enormous, and the third looks ready to push that scale even further. With tickets already becoming difficult to secure and more footage now arriving, the December release is shaping up to be one of the year’s biggest cinema events.
