Ferrari appears to be testing a new version of the Purosangue after a heavily camouflaged prototype was spotted leaving its Maranello factory.
The prototype was filmed by YouTuber Varryx as it drove through the factory gates almost completely covered in camouflage. Ferrari has not announced a new Purosangue variant, so exactly what the car is testing remains unclear.
There are few obvious clues beneath the disguise, although several large air intakes can still be seen at the front. The heavy camouflage may point to styling changes, but some of the more important upgrades could be hidden beneath the bodywork.
Ferrari currently sells the Purosangue with a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 producing 725CV. Motor1 suggests the prototype could use a smaller V8 or V6, possibly paired with plug-in hybrid technology. None of those powertrain options has been confirmed, so there is no indication yet that the V12 is being replaced.
A revised model would follow the Purosangue Handling Speciale revealed in April. That version keeps the V12 but adds recalibrated active suspension, quicker gear changes and several visual changes aimed at giving the car a more focused character.
This prototype appears to be hiding more extensive changes, judging by the amount of camouflage. Even so, it is too early to know whether Ferrari is testing a facelift, another performance-focused version or an electrified addition to the range.
The original Purosangue debuted in September 2022 as Ferrari’s first four-door, four-seat production car. It combines the space and higher driving position of an SUV with the performance focus expected from the brand.
Whatever Ferrari is developing, we may not have to wait too long for answers. For now, though, the disguised prototype is the strongest sign that the Purosangue family is preparing to grow.
