Vans has introduced the Skate Loafer 53 Crepe, a shoe that looks more like a classic penny loafer than a typical skate model. The new release comes in Brown and Black. Wider pricing and release details have not yet been confirmed.
The design boarrows the slim, low-cut shape of 1950s penny loafers, with a rounded toe and simple laceless upper. Suede covers most of the shoe, while leather reinforcement helps it hold its shape and adds extra durability.
Branding is kept subtle, with only a small five-checker flag label near the collar. Both colorways keep the same understated shape, allowing the materials and traditional loafer details to do most of the visual work.
Although the upper looks restrained, the construction underneath is still built around skating. The Skate Loafer 53 Crepe uses a vulcanised sole and Vans’ SickStick rubber waffle outsole for grip. Reinforced panels add durability, while PopCush footbeds provide extra cushioning without taking away too much of the board feel skaters expect.
That combination gives the shoe a useful balance between style and performance. From above, it could pass for an everyday loafer worn with smarter clothes, but the sole and cushioning still come from Vans’ skate range.
The model also arrives as loafers continue to appear more often in skate and streetwear circles. Their simple shape makes them easier to wear away from a board, especially for people who prefer shoes that do not look overly technical.
Vans has kept that idea grounded in its own history by leaving the skate features intact. The Skate Loafer 53 Crepe may have a dressier shape, but its grip, cushioning and reinforced construction still point clearly back to the brand’s skateboarding roots.
