Cayin has launched the CP6, a premium portable CD player for people who still enjoy CDs but want newer audio features too. According to Cayin, the player combines vacuum-tube sound modes with Bluetooth connectivity, dedicated amplification and modern digital-audio hardware.
The CP6 joins a growing number of portable CD players from brands such as FiiO, Shanling and Fosi. Many of those models add rechargeable batteries and Bluetooth to the traditional disc-based format, but Cayin’s version comes at a much higher price.
Priced at $699, the CP6 is available now from authorised US retailers, including Bloom Audio. It costs considerably more than many competing models, which typically sell for between $150 and $300.
Bluetooth 5.4 handles wireless playback, with support for LDAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, AAC and SBC. LDAC can transmit at up to 990kbps, although compatible headphones or earbuds are needed to take advantage of the higher bitrate.

Raytheon JAN6418 vacuum tubes give the CP6 three ways to shape its sound. Classic brings out a warmer tone, Modern creates a wider presentation, and Solid State keeps the sound cleaner and more neutral.
Cayin has also fitted the player with dual Cirrus Logic DACs, Class A tube amplification and a fully discrete headphone amplifier. Listeners can connect through either a 3.5mm single-ended output or a 4.4mm balanced connection.
An aerospace-grade aluminium chassis gives the player a solid feel, though its 850g weight makes it closer to a compact desktop component than a pocketable Discman. Physical playback controls, a textured volume wheel and a 2.3-inch display complete the design.
The CP6 can also rip CDs to USB storage, work as a USB or Bluetooth DAC and function as a standalone headphone amplifier. Optical and coaxial digital outputs allow it to connect to a larger home hi-fi system as well.
It is far from the cheapest way to revisit a CD collection, but the CP6 offers much more than simple nostalgia. Cayin has turned the portable CD player into a serious piece of modern audio equipment.
