Casio has given one of its premium Oceanus Manta watches an international release, but collectors outside the US may still have trouble getting one. The Oceanus Manta OCW-S7000AP-1A has gone on sale in the US after being released in Japan earlier this year. The American release is limited to 800 pieces and priced at $1,660 (via Esquire).
Casio is better known for affordable watches, but its Oceanus range takes a more premium approach. Slimmer cases and polished finishing give the line a smarter, more refined appearance.
This model is built around Awa indigo, a traditional natural dye from Japan. Casio uses the blue tones across three mother-of-pearl sub-dials, each finished in a slightly different shade to create a layered, ocean-inspired effect.
The main dial is deep black, while the 42.8mm case and bracelet are made from titanium. That keeps the watch light on the wrist, despite its premium metal construction. A sapphire glass bezel ring and 9.5mm case thickness also help give it a sharper, more high-end profile.
The watch keeps the practical technology Casio is known for. Tough Solar allows it to charge from light, while Bluetooth support through the Casio Watches app handles automatic time correction and world time settings.
Other features include a one-second stopwatch, day and date display, full automatic calendar and 100 metres of water resistance. Casio’s Japanese listing also notes that the watch can run for around five months on a full charge without further light exposure.
With its titanium build, mother-of-pearl details and limited US run, this Oceanus Manta shows a very different side of Casio. It is still practical and tech-heavy, but this time the package is aimed much more clearly at collectors.
