Panerai has introduced two new Luna Rossa watches, with the latest releases designed more for sailing across the water than diving beneath it. Both models continue the brand’s partnership with the Luna Rossa sailing team ahead of the 38th America’s Cup in Naples. The lineup includes the Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono PAM01768 and the Luminor Luna Rossa GMT PAM01791.
The Chrono is the larger and sportier model, built around a 44mm brushed steel Luminor case. It pairs that case with a silver sun-brushed dial, red Luna Rossa accents and a tachymeter scale around the rehaut. Working with the central chronograph seconds hand, the scale measures average speed over a fixed distance, linking the complication directly to competitive sailing.
Inside is Panerai’s P.9210 automatic chronograph movement, which provides a 42-hour power reserve. The watch is water resistant to 100 metres and is supplied on a new Luna Rossa Velcro strap, with a second black rubber strap included in the box.
The Luminor Luna Rossa GMT PAM01791 takes a more versatile approach with a smaller 40mm brushed steel case. Its GMT function uses a red-tipped second hour hand shaped to reference Luna Rossa’s sail, while the silver sandwich dial carries over the red details and luminous markers seen on the Chrono.
Power comes from the automatic P.900/GMT calibre, which offers a three-day power reserve. This model also introduces the first metal bracelet used in the Luna Rossa collection, complete with Panerai’s PAM Click release system for changing it without tools.
Both watches shift the emphasis from Panerai’s diving heritage towards its partnership with Luna Rossa. Their complications, straps, and design details reflect the demands and visual identity of competitive sailing as the team prepares for the next America’s Cup campaign.
