Casio has launched a new affordable digital watch, and this one takes a softer approach to the brand’s classic retro look. As shown on Casio’s official A140 page, the new series reworks familiar design cues into a more refined, dressier digital watch.
The A140 is clearly inspired by Casio classics like the F-91W and A168, but it does not look like a straight copy. While many of Casio’s best-known digital watches use a longer, more squared-off shape, the A140 has a rounder case with softer corners.
It makes the watch a little more refined, while still keeping the simple digital layout Casio fans expect. The large LCD display sits in the middle of a sunray-finished dial, adding a bit more texture than you usually get from an affordable digital watch.
The watch also uses an electro-luminescent backlight with a blue glow, which is more useful than the basic corner LED found on some other Casio models. Features include a stopwatch, daily alarm, hourly time signal, auto-calendar, and 12/24-hour time format.
Casio has launched the A140 in three versions. The A140WE-2A gets a silver-tone case with a navy blue dial, while the A140WE-8A uses a silver-tone case with a grey dial. The dressiest option is the A140WEG-9A, which comes in a gold-tone finish with a matching gold dial surface.
All three models use a stainless steel multi-row bracelet, giving the watch a more dressed-up look than the chunkier bracelets seen on some older Casio designs.
The A140 is water resistant and runs on a CR2016 battery, with Casio listing battery life at around seven years.
The two silver-tone models are priced at $110, while the gold-tone version costs $130. That keeps the A140 firmly in affordable Casio territory, but with a more understated, polished style than the usual retro digital staples.
