Pagani has revealed the Huayra 70 Derecho, a wild new special project that brings the Huayra back with a manual gearbox and open-top drama. The company confirmed that the Huayra 70 Derecho will make its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It is the second of three Huayra 70 creations built to celebrate Horacio Pagani’s 70th birthday.
The name comes from a derecho, a rare and powerful windstorm known for sudden straight-line winds. That is a suitably dramatic reference for a Huayra powered by a Mercedes-AMG-developed 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12.
Pagani’s technical specifications list the Huayra 70 Derecho at 864hp and 1,100Nm of torque. Power goes to the rear wheels through a seven-speed manual gearbox developed by Pagani with Xtrac, paired with an electromechanical self-locking differential.
A gated manual gearbox gives the Huayra 70 Derecho one of the most unusual features found on a modern hypercar. Proper stick shifts are now extremely rare in this part of the market, which makes Pagani’s V12-powered setup especially appealing.
The car is electronically limited to 350km/h, or 217.5mph. Pagani has not listed acceleration figures, but with that much power and a rear-drive layout, this is clearly not just a showpiece.
Visually, the Derecho is finished in Pearl Orange with Inky Blue sections, designed to show off the fish-bone weave of the carbon fibre beneath. Glossy titanium details and custom Huayra 70 wheels add to the bespoke look.
Inside, Pagani combines Ceramic White and Tricolore Blue leather, with Pearl Orange details carried through to the steering wheel and gear knob.
The Huayra officially made way for the Utopia in 2022, but Pagani’s Grandi Complicazioni division continues to keep older models alive through highly personalised commissions. The Huayra 70 Derecho shows why customers are still interested.
