DoubleTree by Hilton is giving away its signature warm chocolate chip cookies across the US for National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day. Hilton says visitors can stop by participating hotels on August 4 and claim one without making a reservation or booking a stay, while supplies last.
The cookie is usually handed to guests when they check in, but the one-day offer is also open to local visitors and people passing through. Anyone planning to collect one should check with their nearest DoubleTree beforehand, as participation and availability may differ between hotels.
DoubleTree’s chocolate chip cookie has been part of the brand’s welcome for decades. Its soft texture and generous amount of chocolate have earned it a loyal following, but one of the ingredients is less obvious.
The secret ingredient
Each batch includes a small amount of freshly squeezed lemon juice, with a quarter of a teaspoon added to the dough. Hilton says it helps balance the sweetness and contributes to the cookie’s distinctive flavour and texture.
The recipe also includes more expected ingredients such as butter, brown sugar and rolled oats, along with walnuts and chocolate chips. DoubleTree kept the full recipe private for years before releasing it publicly in 2020, allowing people to recreate the cookies at home.
Its release gave fans a closer look at how the well-known hotel treat is made. The lemon juice quickly became one of the most talked-about details, as it is not an ingredient most people would expect to find in a chocolate chip cookie.
Those who cannot eat the original version may also find an allergy-friendly alternative at some hotels. It is made without the nine most common allergens, but DoubleTree notes that availability varies by location.
DoubleTree now has more than 700 hotels across 63 countries and territories, but this particular giveaway is limited to participating properties in the US. The free cookie offer will only run on August 4 and could end early at locations that run out.
