Leatherman has released a new version of its Signal multi-tool, and this one comes with a clear military-inspired look. The new Leatherman Signal Sandstorm is a limited-edition take on the brand’s outdoor-focused multi-tool, as per Gear Patrol. It keeps the same core toolset as the regular Signal, but adds a desert-style finish and a few durability-focused upgrades.
The Signal already has a strong camping and outdoor angle. It includes 19 tools, including a knife blade, pliers, bit driver, bottle opener, hammer, carabiner and fire starter. That makes it useful for small repairs, campsite jobs and general outdoor carry.
The Sandstorm version does not change that formula, which is probably a good thing. Instead, the main update is the finish. The tool gets a light tan colourway, while the dedicated knife, and saw blades feature a desert camo-inspired design.
There is a practical side to the finish as well. The blade and saw use Cerakote, a ceramic-based coating designed to add extra durability. For a tool that is likely to be thrown into packs, clipped onto belts, and used outdoors, that is a useful upgrade.
Leatherman has also given the ferro rod and sharpener a glow-in-the-dark treatment, making the tool easier to find in low-light conditions. It is a small but practical touch for camping or late-night use.
The rest of the appeal is still classic Leatherman since it is compact, rugged, and built around useful tools, with no unnecessary extras. In this version, the new finish just gives it a more tactical look than the standard Signal.
